Fragmentation of wildlife habitat


In the image above, the proposed right-of-way is shown as before; the land outlined in blue is reserved for UF support functions; the land outlined in red contains the sink at Regency Oaks and two retention ponds that overflow into it; and the dashed white lines are relevant UF property boundaries.

Preservation Area 1 (the wooded area west and south of the support area) is connected to Preservation Area 2 (the more than 10 acres of woods and wetlands east of the support area) only by the eastward extension of Area 1 south of the support area. The proposed road will block this wildlife corridor as well as isolate about 3 acres of protected wildlife habitat on private property south of Preservation Area 1.
