In the foreground is Old-field Plot A, a 10-year-rotation plot started in 2002.

All trees except longleaf pines were cleared from the plot before its start.

The brush in the foreground is from killing oaks that had sprouted from roots and stumps not killed prior to starting the plot.

In the background are upland pine and the DPI compound.
