Recommendations
Conservative Measures:
- 1. Three potential sites constructed (one in high use, two in low use areas)
- A) select site with sparse canopy cover
- B) excavate ponds 0.5 – 2.0' in depth and 10 – 20' in diameter
- C) leaf litter (?)
- D) aquatic vegetation surrounding ponds (sedges, rushes) serving as perching and oviposition sites
2. Two sites remain undisturbed but monitored for presence of amphibians
More Invasive Measures:
- 1. If conservative measures unsuccessful, insert clay layer underground (use of synthetic water-holding tarp or barrier)
- –clay from Old-field Successional Area
2. Deeper pond depth
- Continued monitoring necessary to evaluate progress of ponds:
- A) use by breeding amphibians
- B) periodicity of water
- C) pH, temperature
