Recommendations

Conservative Measures:

1. Three potential sites constructed (one in high use, two in low use areas)
A) select site with sparse canopy cover
B) excavate ponds 0.5 – 2.0' in depth and 10 – 20' in diameter
C) leaf litter (?)
D) aquatic vegetation surrounding ponds (sedges, rushes) serving as perching and oviposition sites

2. Two sites remain undisturbed but monitored for presence of amphibians

More Invasive Measures:

1. If conservative measures unsuccessful, insert clay layer underground (use of synthetic water-holding tarp or barrier)
–clay from Old-field Successional Area

2. Deeper pond depth

Continued monitoring necessary to evaluate progress of ponds:
A) use by breeding amphibians
B) periodicity of water
C) pH, temperature
