Minigrants

"Minigrants" of $500 are awarded by the Natural Area Advisory Committee to students or student groups who wish to undertake projects that enhance the information infrastructure of the Natural Area Teaching Laboratory or will improve access to what is already known.

Current program

In 2012, UF’s Natural Area Advisory Committee [NAAC] will award up to two minigrants of $500 each to fund projects that enhance the information infrastructure of the Natural Area Teaching Laboratory [NATL].  We seek projects that will produce useful new information about NATL or will improve access to what is already known.
 
Who is eligible? UF students, or groups of UF students with a designated leader.

Requirements: The student or group, and sponsor, must prepare an application and submit an electronic version by email and a signed paper copy by campus mail.  The application deadline is Thursday February 9th, 2012.

   Proposal to enhance the information infrastructure of the SEEP area of NATL
   PIs are Gabriella S. Mendez, Aubrey M. Tennyson, and Samantha J. Woodward; faculty sponsor is Susan K. Jacobson.

Minigrant awarded 9 December 2009
   Removal and diet of the nonindigenous Cuban Treefrog (Osteopilus septentrinalis)...
   PI is Michael C. Granatosky; faculty sponsor is Kenneth L. Krysko.
   Because NATL's Cuban Treefrogs suffered high or complete mortality during the severe winter of 2009-10, the grant proposal was rewritten
   and given a new title. The revised proposal was approved by NATL's Operations Committee on 1 July 2010.

   Final report, December 2010

Minigrant awarded 5 February 2009
   NATL without borders: a community approach for management of invasives
   Co-PIs are Gerardo Celis and Corrie Pieterson; faculty sponsor is Shibu Jose.
   Final report, August 2009.
   Other products: Brochure; files for an Invasives layer in NATL's GIS map; published note (Wildland Weeds, Fall 2009, p. 11).

   Historical Context of the NATL
   PI is David Munroe; faculty sponsor is Charlotte Porter.
   Final report, received July 2009, consisted of a looseleaf binder with 35 "research items" plus
    a CD with digitized versions of the research items.

Minigrants awarded 19 January 2007
   Enhancement of the information infrastructure of the Natural Area Teaching Laboratory
   Co-PIs are Josiah H. Townsend, Krystal Noiseux, and Jeffrey Anderson; faculty sponsor is Susan Jacobson.
   Final report consisted of near-final drafts of the four posters for the four kiosks at the trail heads of three upland nature trails.

   Enhancement of the information infrastructure of the SEEP area of NATL
   Co-PIs are Kristine E. Hoffmann, Fred P. Fisher [resigned], and Dara M. Wald; faculty sponsor is Susan Jacobson.
   Final report consisted of drafts of the posters for the kiosks at the two entry points for the SEEP Nature Trail
   and for signs along the boardwalk and other portions of that trail.
