  In 1993, Dana Griffin (Botany)(left), Joe Schaefer (Wildlife Ecology and Conservation), and Tom Walker (Entomology and Nematology) authored the proposal that led to the start of NATL in 1994. Here, in 2000, they planted a sign identifying NATL successional plots C and D. Plot C (left), newly tilled, is scheduled to be re-started in 40 years (2040). Plot D (right) is a 10-year plot, last tilled 3 years before (1997).
